WhatsApp Community Guidelines

Welcome to the SCC WhatsApp Community! We are excited to have you here. The WhatsApp Community was created to facilitate quick communication amongst the SCC members. Within the Community, various Groups allow members to message about topics specific to each Group.

To ensure a positive and respectful environment, please adhere to the following guidelines:

Be Kind and Respectful

  1. Treat Others as You Want to Be Treated: Extend courtesy and respect to every community member, regardless of their opinions or background.
  2. No Harassment or Hate Speech: Do not engage in any form of harassment, discrimination, or hate speech. This includes but is not limited to race, gender, religion, or personal beliefs.
  3. Mind Your Language: Keep your language civil and avoid profanity. Remember, our community is diverse, and a positive tone benefits everyone.

Constructive Communication

  1. Text Messaging is Opaque: Of all the methods we have to communicate, text messages are one of the most easily misinterpreted. Keep this in mind when you read or send messages. Strive for clarity in your message to limit misunderstandings.
  2. When You Disagree: Sometimes messages can seem divisive or provoking. But recognize that you may be missing the tone or context of the message. When in doubt, contact the messenger privately to clarify. If that doesn’t feel comfortable, you can contact an admin to help.
  3. Assume Good Intentions: Remember that people are usually doing their best. If a communication seems contrary to this principle, there could be reasons for the other person’s behavior that may not be known to you. Assume that people are trying to do right, even if they aren’t always able to achieve it. Let’s give each other the grace to make mistakes.
  4. Listen Actively: Take the time to understand others' perspectives. Active listening fosters a more inclusive and empathetic community.

Keep It Relevant

  1. Stay On Topic: Ensure your posts and discussions are relevant to the group's purpose. Off-topic content can clutter the conversation. The main focus of the SCC WhatsApp is communicating time sensitive information to the Community as a whole, or certain specific Groups within it, as opposed to personal messages and conversation.  Also, make sure you’re posting to the correct Group within the Community.
  2. No Spamming or Self-Promotion: Refrain from spamming the group with unrelated content or promoting personal projects excessively.

Reporting and Moderation

  1. Report Unacceptable Behavior: If you encounter any behavior that violates these guidelines, please report it to an admin. Do not engage with the person in the group.
  2. Follow Moderators' Instructions: Cooperate with group moderators and follow their instructions promptly. The group will be moderated by the board secretary unless otherwise specified.
  3. Pausing group commenting: The moderator reserves the right to pause group commenting for a period of time as a way to give participants a chance to reflect and regroup. The moderator will resume commenting after a short period of time. Pausing group commenting is not targeted at any given individual nor is it designed to silence anyone; pausing group commenting is a tool to allow all members to pause, reflect, and review group norms before proceeding.

Privacy and Security

  1. Respect Others' Privacy: Do not share personal information about others without their explicit consent.
  2. Beware of Scams: Be cautious about sharing sensitive information and report any suspicious activities to the moderators.

By being a part of the SCC WhatsApp Community, you agree to abide by these guidelines. Remember, our community is built on mutual respect and open communication. Let's create a positive and supportive space for everyone!

Thank you for being a valuable member of our community!
